Performance Cheer Coach Certification
Certification Requirements
To be recognized, coaches must first be SCA Members and registered for the current season in the Cheer Canada Membership platform – Activity Messenger
All requirements must be completed prior to December 1st, 2026 to avoid administration fees (fines).
Coaches who have not completed the requirements applicable to their role are not considered fully credentialed for that role and may be restricted from coaching independently or participating as a coach at SCA-sanctioned activities until outstanding requirements are completed.
Core Credentials and Education Requirements:
- Coach Membership – Register and upload your documents in the membership platform.
- Enhanced Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check within two years for coaches age 18+
- Valid First Aid & CPR
- Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders
- ICU Technical Coaching Course – Modules A & B
- NCCP Requirements
- Making Headway
- Emergency Action Planning
- Safe Sport Training
- Understanding the Rule of Two
- Planning a Practice
- Make Ethical Decisions
Junior Coach – Ages 14–15
For Performance Cheer, Junior Coaches must complete all SCA coach certification requirements, including the required education, safety training, and Performance Cheer technical credentials. The Criminal Record Check (CRC) is the only exception, as Junior Coaches are not yet old enough to complete this requirement.
Age restrictions apply. Junior Coaches may coach U8/Elementary divisions and younger without the direct supervision of a certified coach. When working with older divisions, a Junior Coach must be accompanied by an appropriately certified coach.
Failure to Certify
SCA coaches/junior coaches (not CITs) who fail to complete certification by December 1st of the current season will individually be subject to a $100 administation fee for failing to complete their certification in a timely manner. In addition, coaches actively coaching in Saskatchewan without certification will result in coach ineligibility at SCA sanctioned events until certification is completed. In some cases, coaches will be subject to loss of coaching membership.
Failure to Re-Certify
Certified coaches that consecutively coach for 4 years (ie throughout their certification expiration date) and fail to renew their certification by December 1st of the current season will individually be subject to a $250 administation fee for failing to complete their recertification in a timely manner. This includes any portion of their certification that can be subject to renewal under the current SCA coaching certification program. In addition, coaches actively coaching in Saskatchewan without certification will result in coach ineligibility at SCA sanctioned events until certification is completed.
