University World Cup Cheerleading Championships 2020

The SCA is excited to announce that at Battle at the Border 2019 we will be offering up to FIVE University World Cup Cheerleading Championships Bids! The SCA is eligible to award TWO “Partial Paid Bids” (covering the cost of hotels, competition fees, and entry into the Disney World Parks and Resort) for the 2020 University World Cup Cheerleading Championships (UWCC) – One for cheer and one for performance cheer (dance).   The SCA is also eligible to award up to an additional three at-large bids for cheer and/or performance cheer.

The University World Cup Cheerleading Championships is held in Orlando, Florida.  The 2020 projected date is January 17-19, 2020.

Competitors’ Participation

All Non-USA Participants must be compliant with their country’s official University sports eligibility requirements, as it pertains to standard university international competition, including proof of student identification of the respective educational institution represented as required.   All teams who are awarded a Bid are expected to follow all SCA and Cheer Canada policies and regulations.

Replacements/Substitutions at Bid-Qualifying Events

All athletes competing at Battle at the Border 2019 (the bid-qualifying event) must be listed on the official roster submitted to the event producer at the time of registration. Should a team need to make any substitutions before competing at the Battle at the Border 2019, they must inform the event producer AND SCA a week in advance.

The 2020 University World Cup Cheerleading Championships Bids

Partial Paid Bids are awarded to the highest-scoring CHEER team and the highest-scoring PERFORMANCE CHEER team in one or more of the divisions listed above for the 2020 UWCC qualifying event. The SCA shall be awarding the bids, and therefore has the discretion to select the divisions and determine the process by which the bids are awarded.

The highest scoring Performance Cheer team and the highest scoring Cheer Team shall be presented with the Partial Paid Bids in their respective categories, unless that team has opted out or is ineligible, in which case, the bid will be passed down to the next highest scoring team.

The teams awarded a partial paid bid will have their hotel costs, competition fees, and transportation between the Orlando airport and the Disney World Parks and Resort covered by the ICU. Additional expenses incurred, such as flight costs, meals, and souvenirs will be the responsibility of the teams.

At the discretion of the SCA, up to three additional at-large bids may also award for the 2020 UWCC.  Teams awarded this bid will be responsible to cover all expenses including hotel costs, competition fees, transportation in Orlando, flight costs, meals, and souvenirs.

Following the awarding of the partial paid bids, the next three highest scoring performance cheer OR cheer team shall be presented with an at-large bid in their respective categories, unless that team has opted out or is ineligible, in which case, the bid will be passed down to the next highest scoring team.

Bid Receiving Requirements

All eligible teams competing at Battle at the Border 2019 MUST complete the UWCC Bid Acceptance Form as an acceptance or declination for receiving a bid to the 2020 UWCC.  The SCA will send this form to all eligible teams upon registration for Battle at the Border 2019.

Teams that receive and accept a 2020 UWCC bid may compete at the 2020 UWCC in the same division they competed in at the qualifying event where their bid was awarded.

Teams Attending UWCC Requirements:

  • Must represent a Post Secondary Institute in the province of origin
  • Must have Certified Coaches by a recognized Cheer Coaching Certification program

Timing Requirements for Bid Acceptance

Partial Paid bid winners must accept the bid in writing to the SCA. The acceptance must be emailed to executivedirector@sca.ca within thirty days after Battle at the Border 2019. This means each team will need to have made up their minds prior to the Battle at the Border 2019 about whether they are going to accept the bid should they receive one. Should a team already have been awarded a bid to the 2020 UWCC, decline acceptance of a partial paid bid, or fail to accept the partial bid by the thirty-day deadline, that bid may be transferred to an alternate team at the SCA’s discretion.

Judging Panel

The judging group will consist of: The Head Judge, a minimum of three SCA certified panel Judges, and two Safety Judges. All will be involved in the final decision regarding the awarding of Bids.

Score Sheet

Cheer Canada score sheets will be used for scoring as well as for awarding the bids.  Teams should be aware that the 2020 UWCC will be using ICU Score Sheets and rules. These can be found on the ICU website.

The SCA will be offering up to FIVE 2021 University World Cup Cheerleading Championships Bids at the SCA Provincial Championships held on March 21, 2020. The SCA is eligible to award TWO “Partial Paid Bids” (covering the cost of hotels, competition fees, and entry into the Disney World Parks and Resort) for the 2021 University World Cup Cheerleading Championships (UWCC) – One for cheer and one for performance cheer (dance).   The SCA is also eligible to award up to an additional three at-large bids for cheer and/or performance cheer.  More information for this set of bids will be released soon.
